Suvendu Adhikari writes to PM on ‘corruption’ in central schemes

Kolkata, August 6 (IANS): Opposition Leader in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the alleged corruption in the implementation of different center-sponsored programs in the state.

In the letter, Adhikari specially pointed out the alleged corruption in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act Mahatma Gandhi (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .

“Every day, numerous incidents of malfeasance are uncovered across West Bengal,” Adhikari’s letter mentioned.

In fact, the schemes mentioned by Adhikari in his letter are exactly the ones the state government claims to have maximum dues on.

He claimed that the payments for the works, supposed to be made under the MGNREGA, were made without actually performing these works and that false certificates of use were sent to justify this payment process.

“These days, a new avenue has been created to siphon off millions of rupees. MGNREGA funds are used for planting saplings, mangrove saplings and other varieties of fruit plants. it is claimed that thousands of hectares of land have been covered under the said initiative. However, the reality is surprisingly far from it.At the time of the inspection, it was claimed that the plants were washed away by cyclonic storms like Yash or Amphan or other natural calamities. Even the naturally grown plants are presented as plated by man-days created under MGNREGA,” the letter reads.

He added that the individual beneficiaries who were selected were mostly from the ruling party and therefore did not even bother to plant a single sapling with the allocated fund, which was paid after deducting commissions to the leaders. of the ruling party and to local administrative officials. .

Reacting to the letter, Trinamool Congress State Deputy Chairman Jaiprakash Majumdar said that at a time when the Chief Minister is struggling to seek central funds to push forward the various development projects, Adhikari try to create obstacles for it. “He is actually the enemy of the people of the state,” Majumdar said.
